All of Our Windows Are Energy Star Rated

What does it mean to be an Energy Star rated window?  The windows will have at least 2 panes of glass with a gas between the panes called Argon Gas.  They will also have a transparent coating on the glass called Low E that acts like a mirror to reflect heat back in the direction it came from.  This keeps heat inside your home in winter so your furnace does not need to come on as often.  In summer, it keeps the outside heat on the outside so your air conditioner does not need to work as hard.

Double Pane vs Tripe Pane Windows

Are triple pane windows worth the added cost?  Although going from 2 panes to 3 panes does add some additional level of energy efficiency, it is a minimal level of improvement.  The current building code requirement for triple pane windows is so high that triple pane windows are typically all you need.

One bonus benefit of triple pane windows is that they have a higher level of noise reduction against outside noise vs double pane windows.  If you live on a busy street, this may be the main reason to go with triple pane windows.
