Modern building codes require replacement windows to meet a very high level of energy efficiency in order reduce the amount of energy needed to heat a home in winter or cool a home in summer.
Mass Save Windows Program Has Changed
We have worked with the Mass Save program as it relates to windows for more than 25 years. But now they have changed their program guidelines so that 90% of Massachusetts home do not even qualify for the windows rebate or the Mass Save Heat Loan.
In 2026, Mass Save now requires you to buy the most expensive triple pane windows in order to qualify for the $75 per window rebate and the Heat Loan. But the triple pane windows that meet their guidelines cost $200 more window than double pane windows. *** We do NOT think the Mass Save program for windows is a good option anymore.
Are Triple Pane Windows Worth It? - NO
Although triple pane windows have a slightly higher level of energy efficiency than double panes, it is not that much. The current level of energy efficiency in double pane windows so good, based on current Massachusetts building codes, that the marginal improvement in efficiency in triple panes is NOT worth the $200 additional cost of triple pane windows.
